My fondest bluegill story came from Milton Trautman. I met him at Stone Laboratory on Lake Erie in 1981. A student and teaching assistant at the time, I was told to pick up Dr. Trautman when he arrived at Put-in-Bay, take him where he wanted to go during the week, and get him what he needed for his stay on Gibraltar Island.
A week, what a treasure for anyone who used The Fishes of Ohio as a class textbook. If a bird flew by, a fish came into view, none missed his notice or scientific naming while we were together.
